The hard ball cricket team had their first match of the season defeating Linden Primary School in an entertaining match. The boys scored an impressive total of 115 runs before bowling out the opposition with a great team display. Thank you to Mr Baylis and Mr Williams for coaching the team.
Well done to the team of year six pupils who won the quad kids athletics event hosted by Fleckney Primary School. The festival involved pupils from all six school who are involved in the South Leicestershire Collaborative Partnership. The children performed to a very high standard across a range of events, thank you to Mrs Sparkes for leading the team.
Writing workshop
Thank you to Oakham School who hosted the writing workshop for some of our year six pupils this week. The children had a great time working with performance poet Chris White.
Chris White is a highly regarded fiction writer, performance poet and illustrator and has written many books and poems such as ‘Don’t Put Dave in the Microwave’, ‘Stumpy’s Big Adventure’ and the ‘Beast from the East’. Chris is also currently participating in the BBC’s Digital Curriculum project aimed to provide online literacy assistance for children.
He set the children to work creating their own amusing and wacky poems about fabulous creatures pieced together from a number of different animals, dogs with superpowers, cats and pigs who suffer unimaginable misfortunes and an incredibly fat superhero in a sparkly tutu and ballet slippers!
Thanks to Mrs Byrne for accompanying the group.
It was a pleasure to see three teams of pupils from years three and four take part in the Market Harborough Tournament. Two teams entered the league format, finishing third and fifth while the other team reached the semi-finals of the knock out tournament. Well done to all who took part and thank you to Mr Williams for coaching the teams.
We are delighted to announce that Mr Alan Kirkland, our music teacher, has been awarded Specialist Leader in Education through the Brooke Weston Teaching School Alliance. Mr Kirkland provides wonderful opportunities for the children to learn and perform in many different ways and becomes the first to achieve this status in primary education for music in the country.
The children in year six had a wonderful trip to London after completing their SATs. The day started with a tour around Westminster Abbey which was then followed by a trip to the Tate Britain. The children have been studying David Hockney this term so it was a super chance to see his work. The children then enjoyed a meal at Pizza Express before returning to school. Thank you to Mr Baylis for organising and leading a brilliant experience for the children.
Rev. Janet led our worship as we welcomed a local resident who received Maundy Thursday money at the recent service held at Leicester Cathedral. We heard all about why the Queen hands out coins each year and how the people who receive the money are chosen. The children were interested to hear all about the experience and see the various items given out on the day.
The children in four plus, year one and year two had a brilliant time looking at dinosaur bones and considering how palaeontologists work. The afternoon then involved a very exciting meeting with two dinosaurs, Sophie the teenage Tyrannosaurus Rex and Chewy the baby Tyrannosaurus Rex.
All of the school enjoyed the build up to Easter with various activities taking place. The pupils in year three, four and five put on a wonderful performance of their play “Roll Back the Stone”.
The children took part in our Easter activities morning where they had the chance to work with pupils from all of the different year groups. After that each class had fun completing the Easter Egg hunt organised by Friends of Church Langton.
Our Easter service at St Peter’s was led by Rev. Janet and was a lovely way to bring the term to an end.
Well done to the year five and six boys football team who completed the latest round of fixtures in the Market Harborough league. The team played well, drawing against Little Bowden Primary School and beating Fleckney Primary School. Thank you to Mr Williams for coaching the team.
